BUT HOW?? TWO-WAY TIE FOR FIRST, FOUR-WAY TIE FOR THIRD IN WOMEN'S 100M
Jamaican sprinters Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson laid down a joint fastest time in the women's 100m qualifying semi-finals tonight at the Olympic Stadium. They tied for first with a time of 10.88 seconds and both will race in the gold medal final tonight at 10:37pm.

Incredibly, four women ran the same time of 10.90 seconds to tie for third (=3 is what the official results say) and all qualify for the final. They are Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago, Torie Bowie and English Gardner (really, a special name) both of the USA, and Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands.

THREE INTO FOOTBALL SEMIS, ONE TO GO

Honduras have beaten Republic of Korea 1-0 to seal a place in the men's football semi-finals - Alberth Elis' second-half goal putting the Central Americans one win away from their first medal at these Olympic Games.

In Saturday's earlier quarter-final matches, Germany thrashed Portugal 4-0 while Nigeria prevailed 2-0 against Denmark. The last quarter-final is coming up at 22:00 and it's a big one, as hosts Brazil take on Colombia at Corinthians Arena, Sao Paulo.

PUIG CLINCHES GOLD, ANNOUNCES HERSELF TO THE WORLD
Monica Puig claimed the first Olympic gold medal for Puerto Rico with a win in the women's singles tennis final on centre court of the Olympic Tennis Centre.

The 22-year-old who entered the tournament ranked 34th in the world defeated Germany's Angelique Kerber, the 2016 Australinan Open champion. Her glory was delayed as Kerber put up a trememdous fight in the final game. Puig fought back from sixth break point before finally won 6-4, 6-1 to become the first woman to medal for Puerto Rico at the Olympic Games. Kerber's shot flew wide and Puig threw down her racquet, shouting the words, "Oh, my God!" as she put her hands to her face.

Who is Monica Puig? Read all about her here.

STAR WARS GOES SHAKESPEAREAN
Duelling storm troopers with mesh face-plates, flashing laser-like lights, high-pitched screaming: What's not to love about fencing? Read about the sci-fi beauty of one of the oldest sports at the Olympic Games.

The incredibly entertaining sport of fencing seems like a different creature when it's seen live compared to on television. The four colour-coded pistes form an 'X' in the compact Carioca Arena 3, and a black back-drop adds drama as all four bouts go down simultaneously.

THE NETHERLANDS GRABS GOLD

TUNE IN NOW: PUIG AND KERBER PLAY FOR GOLD IN TENNIS FINAL
The surprise of the women's singles tournament, 22-year-old Monica Puig leads Germany's Angelique Kerber early in the Olympic final with a 3-2 edge in the first set at the Olympic Tennis Centre.

This is the biggest stage Puig, 22, has ever reached as the five-foot-six athlete has never cracked the world top 30. She said she is understandably proud of her huge accomplishment and, following her semi-final win, also thanked a higher power. "I was in the locker room by myself and I knelt to the ground and I started praying because I knew I wouldn't be able to do this alone," she said. "God has given me such an amazing talent, and I just asked him, 'Let me go out on to the court and use what you've given me.'"

Puerto Rico has never won Olympic gold. And no woman has ever won a medal for the island country. Whether she gets silver or gold tonight, Puig will claim a historic first. "The Olympics isn't about me, it's about Puerto Rico and I know how bad they want this."

SHAVING OFF THE MILLISECONDS: BOLT'S NEW HAIR
Usain Bolt appeared on the track this morning sporting a shaved head. We're not sure if it increased his speed but the defending Olympic champion did look pretty slick.
