SILVER LINING FOR MOST-DECORATED GRAINGER
Rower Kath Grainger is Great Britain's most decorated female Olympian after winning a silver medal in the women's double sculls. Grainger won gold at London 2012 and a silver at Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. She is the only British woman with five Olympic medals.
Grainger, competing in her fifth straight Olympic Games, and Victoria Thornley were beaten to the finish by Poland's Magdalena Fularczyk-Kozlowska and Natalia Madaj. Lithuania got the bronze.
"There's always a sense of what might have been," said Grainger, adding they are delighted with silver. "For many many days, nobody thought we'd come back with anything. I don't like leaving empty-handed. It feels pretty nice to walk away from this one with another shiny medal in my pocket."

NADAL MARCHCES ON
Spain's flag-bearer, Rafael Nadal is into the quarter-finals at Rio 2016, where the Olympic Games have been his first tournament in two and a half months.
The 14-time major champion beat 15th-seeded Gilles Simon of France 7-6 (5), 6-3. Nadal will face either Italy's Thomaz Bellucci or Belgium's David Goffin.
He plays again today, taking on Canada in men's doubles with partner Marc Lopez at 3:15pm.
TABLE TENNIS FINAL A CLASH OF CHINA VS CHINA
The men's singles table tennis final is set and for the third Olympic Games, China will take home gold and silver.
World No. 1 Ma Long will face London 2012 champion Zhang Jike at 9:30pm tonight at Riocentro Pavillion 3.
Ma beat Japan's Jun Mizutani 4-2 in the first best-of-seven semi-final. In the other semi-final, Zhang, whose first name was inspired by Brazilian soccer star Zico, beat Vladimir Samsonov, a former world No. 1 from Belarus, 4-1.
China has 25 medals so far at Rio 2016. They are second in the overall tally with 10 gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.

CHASING THE TRIPLE
It's dynasty time on the opening two days of track and field at Rio 2016. Three athletes will each try to become the first woman to win three straight individual titles at the Olympic Games.
New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams is one, 10,000m great Tirunesh Dibaba from Ethiopia is another, and Great Britain's 100m sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce also has a shot.

A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME WOULD SHOOT AS SWEET
Great Britain ace Justin Rose stroked a hole-in-one on the par-three, 189-yard fourth hole of the Olympic Golf Course. He remains at three-under-par through nine holes and is tied for fifth through the first round of the men's golf tournament. Australia's Marcus Fraser leads the field at eight-under.

THE CUP RUNNETH OVER FOR DA SILVA
After he was the first to tee off at the Olympic Golf Course this morning, Brazil's Adilson da Silva said he felt the thrill of seeing his sport return to the Olympic Games after 112 years.
"It has been on my mind a lot," said da Silva, who wiped tears from his eyes after he shot a one-over-par 72. "It was a privilege and a huge responsibility. It's hard not to get emotional."

ROWING ROUNDUP: CROATIA'S FIRST TRIUMPH, SWITZERLAND GRABS GOLD AFTER 20 YEARS
The last three medal races of the day saw Poland win the women's double sculls, Croatia win the men's double sculls, and Switzerland win in the lightweight men's four final.
Croat gold medallists and two-time world champions, Martin and Valent Sinkovic were elated with their country's first gold medal in rowing. "We couldn't be happier. We managed to pull something special in the last 500 (metres) out of nowhere," Martin said. And on what their family will think is a playful joke, Valent added, "I think we are coming home in 12 days and my father will still be drunk."
Switzerland's victory in the lightweight men's four was the country's first gold medal in rowing since Atlanta 1996.

KIWIS DEFEND ROWING TITLE
Eric Murray and Hamish Bond of New Zealand successfully defended their title in the men's pair. They are the third duo in Olympic history to win back-to-back medals in this event, after Steven Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent of Great Britain in 1992 and 1996, and twin brothers Bernd and Jorg Landvoigt of former East Germany in 1976 and 1980.
This is New Zealand's 10th Olympic gold in the sport, equal to its haul in athletics and more than in any other sport.

BACK-TO-BACK ROWING GOLD FOR GERMANY
Germany doubled up in the quad skulls on the water this morning at Lagoa Stadium.
The men's foursome of Philipp Wende, Lauritz Schoof, Karl Schulze and Hans Gruhne won gold ahead of Poland by 1:15 seconds. Austria won bronze.
In the women's race minutes later, Annekatrin Thiele, Carina Baer, Julia Lier and Lisa Schmidla out-paced the Netherlands and Poland by a slim margin.
IT STARTS SLOWLY, BUT YOU WILL WELL UP
The grandparents of Kyle Chalmers watch as the Australia swimmer wins gold in the men's 100m freestyle on 10 August. The 18-year-old from Adelaide also won bronze with the men's 4x100 relay.
THE ONLY COLOUR FOR SIMONE IS GOLD
The dynamic, jaw-droppingly talented gymnast who was part of the USA team that routed the field on their way to Olympic team gold on 9 August asked for make up advice this morning. The 19-year-old , three-time world champion often wears sparkling eye-liner during competition, and today we'll wait to see what she chooses.
Biles competes today in the women's individual all-round final, beginning at 4pm at the Rio Olympic Arena.
