Thiago Pereira is searching for his first Olympic gold medal as he takes on Michael Phelps in the 200m medley at 11:01pm. The Brazilian athlete with the largest Pan American Games medal haul, Pereira beat Phelps to silver in London 2012. Qualifying with the third fastest time overall, he'll need to go faster by at least one second if he is to beat the American.

MA LONG TAKES GOLD
World no.1 table tennis star Ma Long has defeated his compatriot and London 2012 champion Zhang Jike 4-0 at Riocentro Pavillion 3. China now has 29 medals so far at Rio 2016. They are second in the overall tally with 11 gold, eight silver and ten bronze medals.

 

BREAKING: VICTORIOUS FIJI COACH TO STAND DOWN
Ben Ryan, the British man who coached Fiji to Olympic gold, has told 5 live sport that he will be standing down as head coach of the Olympic champions. He said he'll be the first Fiji coach who isn't sacked.

China will take home gold and silver in the men's table tennis finals.

Ma beat Japan's Jun Mizutani 4-2 in the first best-of-seven semi-final. In the other semi-final, Zhang, whose first name was inspired by Brazilian soccer star Zico, beat Vladimir Samsonov, a former world No. 1 from Belarus, 4-1.

China has 25 medals so far at Rio 2016. They are second in the overall tally with 10 gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.
