CARMELO ON POINT

As well as helping the USA to a narrow victory against Australia, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has also broken a team record. His 31-point haul against the Aussies means he is now the USA's leading point scorer in Olympic Games history.

SABRE GOLD FOR SZILAGYI, AGAIN

Reigning Olympic champion Aron Szilagyi of Hungary has clinched a repeat gold in the men's sabre, defeating USA's Daryl Homer 15-8.

FOIL GOLD FOR RUSSIA

Inna Deriglazova has clinched Russia's fourth gold medal of the Games in the women's foil individual, defeating Italy's Elisa Di Francisca 12-11.

NORMAL SERVICE IS RESUMED

The USA's men's basketball team has won again. Australia pushed them all the way, but the gold medal favourites - trailing for much of the game - showed their class to run out 96-88 winners at Caricoa Arena 1. Never in doubt, was it?

WEIGHTLIFTING MAYHEM!

We said it would take something special to deny China's Lyu Xiaojun the gold medal after his record-breaking snatch lift in the men's 77kg weightlifting, and it has!

Kazakhstan's Nijat Rahimov has just made a world-record clean and jerk lift of 214kg to become Olympic champion. Incredible scenes, incredible man.

BRAZILIANS RALLY BEHIND ETHIOPIAN SWIMMER

At 81kg, Ethiopia's Robel Kiros Habte outweighs the average swimmer by quite a bit. But despite finishing last overall in the 100m freestyle preliminary heats with a time of 1:04.95, Habte has become quite the sensation in Rio. Nicknamed 'Robel the Whale', the son of Ethiopia's swim president received cheers upon finishing the race half a lap behind everyone else.

While some Twitter users have questioned Habte's decision to become a swimmer, the 24-year-old said he's happy with his performance.

"I wanted to do something different for my country, that’s why I chose swimming," Habte said.

THERE GOES ANOTHER WORLD RECORD...
Congratulations to Chinese weightlifter Lyu Xiaojun, who has just broken his own world record, lifting 177kg in the snatch at the 77kg weightlifting. It will take something special to deny him the gold medal now.

BASKETBALL: CATCH IT WHILE YOU CAN
Team USA are currently trailing Australia by 25-17 (the tweet is old) in the first quarter. Judging by history, the NBA, and almost any stat you could pull out in this situation, things won't be staying like this for much longer.

SOUTH AFRICA GET THEIR OWN BACK ON AUSTRALIA
The Sprinboks avenged their defeat to Australia this morning by handing them a 25-5 defeat to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

Despite the seemingly dominant scoreline, the South Africans were made to work for it.

They will play Great Britain in the semis at 3:00pm tomorrow, after Fiji take on Japan at 2:30pm.

108 YEARS OF HURT... OVER!

British gymnast Max Whitlock may have missed out on a gold medal in the all-around final, but he's being hailed as a hero back home. The 23-year-old's bronze was Great Britain's first medal in an all-around final for 108 years.
