Created in the USA in the 1970s, Wheelchair Tennis appeared for the first time in the Barcelona Paralympic Games, in 1992.
The game follows the rules of conventional tennis. The only difference is that the ball can bounce twice, with the first bounce required to be within the bounds of the court.
The athletes must have substantial or total loss of movement in one or two legs. There is also the QUAD category, in which players have three or more affected members. The events are divided into individual and doubles, and the winner of a match is the athlete that wins two sets.
