Wheelchair Fencing

One of the original event of the Paralympic Programme, the Wheelchair Fencing has been disputed since the Rome Games, in 1960. It is disputed by men and women with amputation, spinal injury, or cerebral palsy.

In this event, the wheelchairs are fixed to the floor, by means of a special frame that positions the athletes at a pre-determined angle and distance. This frame, however, does not impede the athletes from freely moving from the trunk upwards, which results in tough and very rousing bouts.

The competition is disputed in the following categories: Foil (men and women), Épée (men and women), and Sabre (men).
