Triathlon is a sport that combines a 1,500m swimming, 40km cycling and 10km run, in that order. It is a sport of endurance that requires a lot of training and breath. The athletes compete for the fastest course completion time.
In the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, triathlon competitions will start at Fort Copacabana on 8 and 9 August. There are only two events, men´s and women´s individual, in which medals are awarded. In Beijing 2008 Games, 110 athletes – 55 women and 55 men – competed in Triathlon.
No rest
Triathlon is an individual sport in which the athlete cannot receive any assistance from anyone else inside or outside the race, except for the volunteers who distribute food and liquid on the course.
It is a competition in which the athlete doesn’t rest a moment, as the transitions between swimming and cycling and between cycling and running are also parts of the official time.
