From 23 to 31 July, Casa Brasil, located at Somerset House in London, will be showcasing Brazilian cinema through “Festival Occupation Onscreen – The New New Cinema from Rio” (“Festival Occupation nas Telas – O Novíssimo Cinema do Rio”). In all, 12 feature films and 20 short films will be shown for the first time in London, presenting the most recent works made by Rio de Janeiro’s youngest and most talented generation of filmmakers.
Discussions about the films will also be held, in which the public will be able to interact with directors and filmmakers present in London. All sessions will be free. To attend, you only need to register and collect a ticket beforehand.
There will be two sessions per day at 4 pm and 6:30 pm. The premiere will be on Monday, 23 July, featuring the short films “BerlinBall”, “Drežnica”, “Geral” and “Batuque na Cozinha”, directed by Anna Azevedo. The second session of the day, at 6:30 pm, will present the feature film “Sudoeste”, by director Eduardo Nunes. Both sessions will be followed by discussions with the directors.
Casa Brasil, located inside cultural centre Somerset House in the heart of London, is the main venue for showcasing Brazilian culture and sport, the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games and business opportunities in the country during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Until the end of the 2012 Paralympic Games, Casa Brasil will host an extensive programme of activities using the main galleries of Somerset House for exhibitions on contemporary Brazilian culture, art and design, Rio de Janeiro as Olympic and Paralympic city, and plans for the Rio 2016™ Games. Besides the film festival, there will be a series of performances by musicians and DJs, and the public will have the chance to sample a little of the country’s cuisine.

Sessions: 4 pm and 6:30 pm.
Entry: Free. (Tickets for the sessions will be distributed on the same days. At 3 pm, all the tickets for the 4 pm session and half of the tickets for the 6:30 pm session will be handed out. At 5 pm, the remaining half of the tickets for the 6:30 pm session will be distributed.)
